Providence, R.I. - Brown freshman Paige Pyett (Balgonie, SK) was named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week on Monday, following a terrific weekend in which she helped the Bears pick up a league win and narrowly missed tying Cornell. Pyett had a goal and an assist, sparking the offense into six goals over the two games.
On Friday night Pyett helped keep the pressure on the Big Red with her thundering shots from outside, and set up one of Andrea Hunter's two goals. Though Cornell scored in the final seconds of overtime to take the win, the Bears played an impressive game on the road, and just missed pulling out a tie against a tough opponent.
Pyett and Brown were even better the following night at Colgate, as the precocious defenseman got in on the scoring with a goal of her own, and the Bears came away with an exciting 4-3 win on the road. With Brown facing a 2-1 deficit nearing the first intermission, Pyett took advantage of a power play opportunity to fire in the game-tying goal with three minutes remaining in the period. Her score would be a critical one in what turned out to be a one-goal game.
In the first eight games of her collegiate career, Pyett has five points, with three goals and two assists.
