Providence, RI - Brown freshman Andrea Hunter (Fulton, NY) has been named the ECAC Hockey League Rookie of the Week for her play against No. 10 Boston College and Yale last week. The first-year, who has seen time at both forward and defense this season, scored her first career goal against the Eagles on Thursday, then assisted on another against the Bulldogs on Saturday. Hunter is tied for the team lead in points with five.
Hunter's goal was simply a hustle play. With the Bears killing off a penalty, the puck was cleared out of the zone, caroming off the boards to center ice. Hunter out-skated the BC defenseman to the puck, then converted a one-on-one with the goaltender for Brown's first goal of the night. Two days later, she earned her second power play assist of the season on the first career goal by fellow freshman Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC).
On the season, Hunter has one goal and four assists for five points. She started the season playing on the Brown blue line, but moved from defense to being the center on the first line against Colgate, where she's been since.
