Sept. 8, 2008
Providence, RI - Brown women's ice hockey coach Digit Murphy has recently announced the addition of Sean Coady to her coaching staff for the upcoming 2008-2009 season. Coady joins the staff after a lengthy career in the National Hockey League, most recently as the Director of Professional Scouting for the San Jose Sharks. While there, he was in charge of analyzing NHL talent and overseeing the acquisition of new prospects by the organization. Coady, a 1984 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, will assist with recruiting and the operation of the team.
After graduating from UNH, Coady was an assistant coach at Princeton before returning to New Hampshire as the head assistant coach for three seasons. During that time Coady also worked with the United States National Team for the 1985 World Championship.
Following his coaching career Coady signed on with the Phoenix Coyotes as their Director of Player Personnel. In 2001 he then moved back to the New England area when he accepted a similar position with the Boston Bruins. While there, Coady saw the Bruins make the playoffs in three of his four seasons. In his final stop before coming to Brown, Coady moved to the San Jose Sharks to become their Director of Professional Scouting.
In his return to coaching Coady brings a wealth of experience in talent evaluation and on-ice instruction, and will look to help push the Bears to the next level during his first season in Providence.
