Hunter Goal Gives Brown a Tie at Yale, 2-2

Dec. 9, 2007

Box Score

New Haven, CT - After 45 minutes of scoreless hockey, Brown (1-10-2, 1-7-2 ECAC Hockey) and Yale (4-5-3, 3-5-2 ECAC Hockey) scored twice each in the last 15 minutes of the third period, ending in a 2-2 tie in ECAC women's hockey action on Sunday afternoon at Ingalls Rink. Sophomore Andrea Hunter (Fulton, NY) scored her first of the season with the Bears skating the extra attacker in the final two minutes for the game-tying goal, as Brown ended a six-game losing skid.

Yale's Bray Ketchum scored the first of her two goals on a four-on-four at 5:01 in the third, beating junior Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL) on a laser wrist shot from the back of the right faceoff circle. The Bears finally got on the board at 13:02. Sophomore forward Sasha Van Muyen (Orillia, ONT) collected a long pass from senior Heather Lane (London, ONT) in the neutral zone, skated in on Yale goaltender Jackee Snikeris and buried the puck between her blocker and the left post for her first goal of the season.

The tie did not last long, as Ketchum netted her second goal just 1:08 later, showcasing some nifty stickhandling to go around one Brown defender, switch to her backhand and beat Stock. The score remained 2-1 until the Bears pulled Stock in the final minutes. Off a faceoff in the Yale end, Hunter put home the rebound off an Erin Connors (Newburyport, MA) shot with 1:20 remaining, sending the game to overtime.

Yale outshot Brown 33-24 for the game. Stock made 31 stops, while Snikeris made 22.

The game was the Bears' last of 2007, as the team breaks for exams and the holidays. Bruno will be back in action at Meehan Auditorium on Jan. 5, when #1 New Hampshire comes to Providence.
