The Brown University women's ice hockey team (4-4-0, 1-0-0) downed Colgate (11-5-1, 4-1-0) 3-1 in their first ECAC match-up Friday night at Meehan Auditorium. Junior Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA) led the Bears with a goal and an assist on the night.
Brown came out strong in the first period and took advantage on a power play just 2:27 into the game. Keaton Zucker (Gilford, NH) netted her 5th goal of the season on the play and McLaughlin tallied the assist. Ten minutes later the Bears gave themselves a 2-0 advantage over the Raiders when Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) notched her third goal of the season off a rebound from Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT). Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA) also had an assist on the play.
Both teams were kept scoreless for the first half of the second period. However, Colgate brought themselves within one with a power play goal at the 14:24 mark.
Behind a tough Brown defense the Bears held onto the lead and netted a late goal with three seconds left in the game to clinch the victory over the Raiders. The goal was scored by McLaughlin and assisted by Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY).
Goaltender Katie Germain (Sarnia, ONT) had a strong performance stopping 17 shots in the game.
