Bears Dominate Dutchwomen, 8-1

Schenectady, NY - The Brown women's hockey team (9-4-0, 6-3-0) finished their weekend sweep of the Dutchwomen with an, 8-1 victory this afternoon at Messa Rink in Schenectady, NY. The Bears were aggressive offensively all afternoon and saw three players record two goals, to extend their win streak to four games.

The Bears jumped out to an early one goal lead when junior Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) netted her sixth goal of the season just over a minute into the game. Freshman Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) netted her first of two goals, three minutes later to give the Bears a two-goal lead. Senior Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA) won a draw, that went to junior Lindsey Glennon (Exter, NH). Glennon gave a quick pass to Moore in front of the net doubling the Bear's lead. Union cut the lead to one mid-way through the period, but that would it for the Dutchwomen, having Brown dominate the rest of the way. Sophomore Ann Brophy (Ann Arbor, MI) fed freshman Rylee Olewinski (Burr Ridge, IL) a pass at center ice, in which Olewinski carried took in the Dutchwomen's zone and made a centering feed to sophomore Christine Holdredge (Ashley Falls, MA) who knocked the puck in brining the lead back to two. Twenty seconds later, Brown struck again when Nugent took a pass from sophomore Lauren Deeb (Menands, NY) and slammed it past Union's goaltender, four the three goal lead..

Brown came out of the intermission pressing the Dutchwomen defense and goalie. Senior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) caused problems for the Union defense all day and netted her first goal of the game, 0:45 into the period to extend the lead to five. Link took a centering pass from Moore and shot it under the right pad of goalie Amanda Hanson for her first of two goals in the period. Thirteen minutes later Moore scored on a Brown power-play goal to earn her second goal of the game and add to the Brown lead. With under two minutes remaining in the second period, senior Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA) took a Heinhuis pass and fired a rocket that rebounded out to Link, in which she put in the back of the net, ending the three goal period.

Nugent netted her second goal of the game four minutes into the third to round out the Bears scoring. Link and Moore teamed up for the second time in the game to get the assist on Nugent's goal. Splitting time in net for Brown was freshman Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) who made five saves in two periods and sophomore Marie-Pier Desbiens (Bolton-Est, QC) saving three in the final period to preserve the victory for the Bears.

Brown will return to action Tuesday, January 4 when they will host Connecticut for a 7:00 face-off.
