Women's Hockey Falls To #6 St. Lawrence, 2-1

Providence, RI - - Freshman goaltender Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) slowed down ECACHL number one ranked offense, St. Lawrence in the Bears', 2-1 overtime loss this afternoon. Silverman made key one on one saves throughout the game, holding the Saints offense off the board for two periods. The Bears now fall to 5-3-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the ECACHL.
The Saints had a chance to go ahead by one mid-way through the second when sophomore Crystal Conners skated into the Bears zone for a one on one with the frosh. Silverman stayed composed and stone walled Conners to keep the game scoreless. Brown's best chance also came in the first, when freshman Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) snapped a shot that past Saint's goalie Meghan Guckian but, the hit the top pipe keeping the game tied at one.
The scoreless tie would finally be broken, four minutes into the third when junior Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) slammed home her third goal of the season on a Brown power play. Senior Krissy McManus (Dedham, MA) received her own rebound and made a quick pass to Heinhuis across the crease, which Heinhuis slide past Guckian. The Saints would counter less then two minutes later, when Rebecca Russell cashed in on a short handed goal, sending the game into over time.
In the overtime period the Bears could not get the puck out of their zone preventing them from getting a shot off. Silverman was rushed with a flurry of shots in the extra period, but stood strong, saving anything that came her way. In a late penalty called on Brown, St. Lawrence had a man advantage that they did not slip by. Russell scored on a rebound that trickled to her stick, for the game-winner and her second goal of the game. Silverman finished the game with 30 saves for the Bears.
