Providence, RI - For the fifth time in seven games, the Brown women's ice hockey team (0-7-0, 0-5-0) lost by one goal Saturday night, falling 2-1 to Yale at Meehan Auditorium. Freshman Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) became the fifth Bear this season to score her first collegiate goal, while junior goaltender Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) made 34 saves in the loss.
Both Yale goals were scored by senior Kristin Savard on similar plays at 11:11 in the first period and 1:39 of the third. On both, Savard skated in on a one-on-one with Silverman, then flipped a shot over the goalie's left shoulder into the corner of the net.
The Bears were able to cut the deficit in half at 7:31 in the third period. On a power play, Brown worked the puck around until it got to Asay at the point, just to the left of the goal. The freshman let loose a blast that Yale goaltender Shivon Zilis got a piece of, but could not stop. The goal was Asay's first and marked the first assist for fellow freshman Sasha Van Muyen (Orillia, ON), while freshman Andrea Hunter (Newburyport, MA) picked up her fourth assist of the season on the play.
The Bears will attempt to pick up their first win of the season at home next weekend against No. 8 Harvard and No. 4 Dartmouth. The puck drops at 7 p.m. Friday against the Crimson and at 4 p.m. against the Big Green the following day.
