Bears' Comeback Not Enough In 3-2 Loss to #10 BC
Nov. 9, 2006
Chestnut Hill, MA - A two-goal rally in the second period sent the Brown women's ice hockey team (0-6-0, 0-4-0) into the second intermission tied with the No. 10 Boston College Eagles, but a third-period goal by the hosts proved to be the margin of victory. Freshmen Sasha Van Muyen (Orillia, ON) and Andrea Hunter (Fulton, NY) scored in the second to tie the game at 2-2, while goaltender Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL) stopped 34 shots.
The Eagles jumped on top early, scoring twice in the first period. The first goal came when freshman Megan Keever collected the rebound from a wide shot off of the back boards next to the crease, tucking the puck between Stock and the right post. That goal gave BC momentum that eventually led to its next goal. After two consecutive saves by Stock, BC sophomore Brie Baskin lifted a third shot over the goaltender's leg.
The Bears got one back early in the second period. On a power play, Van Muyen grabbed the puck between the blue line and right faceoff circle, skated into the corner and around a defenseman. She eventually made her way out in front of the net before tucking a wrist shot into the bottom left corner of the net.
Hunter then tied the score at 10:58 on her first career goal. With BC on a power play, the Bears cleared a puck out that bounced off the boards and caromed off towards center ice. Hunter beat a BC defenseman to the puck, skating in on her right for a one-on-one with the goalie. Her shot went over the goalie's right shoulder and went just inside the post to knot things at 2-2.
BC retook the lead just 36 seconds into the third period. After the Eagles won the faceoff at center ice, Kelli Stack carried the puck into the Brown zone. When Stock came out to cut down Stack's angles, the BC freshman passed across the goaltender to junior Deborah Spillane, who buried a one-timer into the open net.
Stock turned in her second solid performance against a ranked team this season, stopping 34 shots, many on great scoring chances for BC. For the game, the Bears were outshot 37-20.
