Brown Women's Hockey Defeats Maine 1-0 In Season Opener

The Brown University women's ice hockey team (1-0-0, 0-0-0) opened the 2003-2004 season defeating the Maine Black Bears(1-4-2) 1-0 at Meehan Auditorium on Friday evening.

In the season opener for Brown, junior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) scored Brown's only goal eight minutes into the first period, unassisted.

For the game, senior Katie Germain (Sarnia, ONT) kept Maine scoreless and had 25 saves. This marks Germain's seventh shutout of her career. Brown outshot Maine 40 to 25 in the game. The Bears continue action tomorrow as they host Boston College at 3:00 p.m.
