Ithaca, NY - For the second time this season a Brown freshman recorded their first collegiate goal on a game winner, this time it came off the stick of Frances Male (Toronto, ONT) to give the Bears (2-2-0, 1-1-0 ECACHL) a 3-2 victory over Cornell this afternoon. Splitting time in net for Brown was sophomore Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) and freshman Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL), who combined for 28 saves in this afternoon's victory.
The Bears opened up the scoring when senior Keaton Zucker (Gilford, NH) found the back of the net on a Brown power play at the 12:28 mark, to give the Bears a one goal lead. Senior Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) and junior Lauren Deeb (Menands, NY) recorded the assists. Cornell evened the score at one with 5:13 remaining in the opening frame, as Lindsay Pegier snuck the puck past Silverman.
The Big Red took the lead early in the second, on a power play goal by Caleigh Beerworth, putting the score at 2-1 in Cornell's favor. Stock relieved Silverman in net shortly after. Silverman finished the game with 14 saves in 35:20 minutes of play. With 2:31 to go in the second period, senior Margaret Ramsay (Toronto, ONT) took a pass from Deeb and lit the lamp, tying the score at two, with one period to go.
In a see-saw third period, Male netted what proved to be the game winning goal with 10:02 to go in the game. Stock stood strong in net for the Bears, recording her first collegiate win, stopping all 14 shots that came her way.
The Bears will travel to the mid west next weekend, to take on National Champions Minnesota for a weekend series with the Gophers. The two squads will face-off Saturday, November 12 at 1:05 CT and Sunday November 13 at 1:05 (CT).
