Providence, RI - The Brown women's hockey team recorded its first ECACHL victory of the season with a 4-1 win over Cornell in its home-opener on Friday night. Four different players scored for the Bears, who are now 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in ECACHL play. Senior Krissy McManus (Dedham, MA) tallied a goal and two assists in the win.
Brown took a 1-0 lead at the 9:04 mark of the first period when junior Keaton Zucker (Gilford, NH) scored on a power play. Senior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) and McManus picked up the assists on the play. With 4:52 left to play in the period, junior Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) gave Brown a 2-0 lead with another power play goal. McManus and senior Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, MA) recorded the assists.
After a scoreless second, the Big Red made it a one-goal game midway through the third. Less than five minutes later, junior Lindsey Glennon (Exter, NH) and freshman Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) connected with freshman Heather Lane (London, ONT) for Brown's third power play goal of the night. The goal was the first of Lane's career. With 1:21 left to play in the game, McManus sealed the victory when she beat Cornell's keeper for her third point of the night. Moore and senior Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA) notched the assists on the play.
Brown dominated with a 35-11 advantage in shots. Sophomore Marie-Pier Desbiens (Bolton-Est., QUE) recorded ten saves in net for the Bears.
Brown will play Colgate tomorrow at 4 p.m. in its second ECACHL match-up of the weekend.
