Durham, NH - The women's ice hockey team (1-1-0,0-0-0) was defeated by seventh ranked University of New Hampshire Wildcats (6-0-0, 2-0-0), 2-1, at the Whittemore Center in Durham, NH.
The Bears came out strong dominating most of the first period. Senior Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA) and freshman Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) connected with senior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) just over a minute into the game to give Brown an early 1-0 lead. The Wildcats threatened late in the period having a two man advantage, but freshman goalie Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) stood strong in net for Brown saving all eight shots. Silverman finished the game with 26 saves.
After a quick second period UNH score, the Bears had a crucial two men advantage, but couldn't produce a score. The Wildcats would score again with just eight minutes left in the game to grab a 2-1 lead. Brown pulled goalie Silverman with just over a minute to play, but was unable to score the game-tying goal.
Brown will return to action on Friday, November 5, when they face Cornell in their home opener and first ECAC conference game of the season for a 7:00 face-off.
