#2 UNH Too Tough For Bears in 2-0 loss
Oct. 20, 2006
Durham, NH - Scoring opportunities were hard to come by for the Brown women's ice hockey team Friday night, as the Bears (0-1-0) dropped their season opener to No. 2 UNH, 2-0. The Bears were held to just seven shots on goal in the entire contest, compared to 39 shots for their hosts. Despite being called for just four penalties in the contest, both goals given up by Brown were on UNH power plays, both in the first period.
The first goal came after sophomore forward Frances Male (Toronto, ON) received a penalty for tripping 9:37 into the game. Just 23 seconds later, UNH capitalized, as Sam Faber, UNH's leading scorer, found the back of the net. At 13:31, sophomore forward Savannah Smith (Fort St. John, BC) was called for tripping as well. Once again, it did not take long for the Wildcats to score, as Nicole Hekle scored at 13:50.
Sophomore goaltender Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL) put forth a solid effort for Brown between the pipes while taking the loss, stopping 37 shots.
Next weekend, the Bears will open their ECACHL schedule by traveling to Cornell and Colgate.
