With everything on the line for the Saints, they pressured the Bear's defensive core and freshmen goaltenders O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK) and Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) for most of game.

Three times in the opening period Brown found themselves on the penalty kill, one in which St. Lawrence cashed in on. Chelsea Grills snuck the puck past Shipe for the one goal lead. Shipe finished the first period with 14 saves. St. Lawrence look to have went up by two with under six minutes to go in the period, but was called back by referee Bob Ritchie, having the puck go in after the whistle was blown.

The Saints opened the game up in the second period scoring two unanswered goals to push the lead to two. Shipe kept the Bears in the game making two big stops on Saints captain Rebecca Russell with less than seven minutes remaining in the period. With the Bears down in a power play senior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) carried the puck in the offensive zone for a three on one with St. Lawrence defender Annie Guay. Silverman (Wakefield, MA) relieved Shipe for the final period of play, finishing with 27 saves in the first 40:00 in the Bear's net. Silverman stopped all 12 shots she faced including a left pad save with seven minutes remaining to deny Grills a hat trick. With the two Saints players bearing down on the young goalie with three minutes remaining in the game Silverman stretched post to post to keep it a three goal game.
