Box Score

Canton, NY - Senior Katie Guay (Wakefield, MA) led the Bears (15-3-2, in the 3-0, win over St. Lawrence in the first game of the ECACHL quaterfinal at Appleton Arena in Canton, NY. Guay recorded three assists in this afternoon's win, while freshman goaltender O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK) anchored the defense saving 21 in the win.

St. Lawrence controlled the flow of the game for most of the first period testing the young Brown goaltender O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK). Shipe stood strong in between the pipes for the Bears keeping all nine shots out of the Bear's net. The Saints won the puck deep in the Bear's zone with 9:15 left, but couldn't find the back of the net as Shipe made a quick move to her left turning away senior Rebecca Russell who fired a quick back hander at the net. Brown struck first with 8:51 left in the period, when junior Lindsey Glennon (Exter, NH) fired the puck past Saint's goaltender Meaghan Guckian on a Bear power play. Glennon won the draw, having senior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) fire the puck at St. Lawrence's net. Freshman Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) tip the puck to Glennon that was waiting on the right side with a wide-open net. With less than three minutes remaining in the opening period the Saints looked to have tied the score, but the goal was called back because the Brown net was off the post.

Spending most of the second period on the power play, the Bears pressed Guckian and the Saint's defense for most of the second frame. Shipe came up big again for the Bears when she poked the puck away from Russell who was skating in on a breakaway, keeping the Saints off the board. In a quick transition, senior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) and junior Keaton Zucker (Guilford, NH) found themselves in a two on one advantage skating into the Saint's zone. Link had the puck along the right side boards pulling the St. Lawrence defender toward her, then sliding the puck to Zucker wide open along the left side. Zucker one timed it, but Guckian kicked her right leg out to stop the puck from going over the line a keeping the Saints down by one. With 2:37, left to go in the period, the Bears converted on another power play, having Glennon tip a shot past Guckian for the Bear's second goal. Guay took the puck at the point and passed it across ice to junior Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) who fired a puck at the net having Glennon get her stick on it for her second goal of the game.

Link pushed the game out of reach for the Bears when she netted her 15th goal of the season with 17:20, remaining in the game. Guay recorded her third assist on the afternoon on Link's goal. With the Saints on a two-man advantage mid-way through the third the Bear's conference leading penalty killing unit, didn't let St. Lawrence any good looks at the net, keeping the Saints scoreless.

The two squads will return to the ice tomorrow March 5, at 2:00, when the Bears will try to sweep the Saints and earn a trip to the ECACHL Final Four at Union College.
