Hamilton, NY - The Brown women's hockey team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Colgate Friday night in Hamilton, NY. The win improves the Bears to 11-12-4 overall and 8-6-1 in the ECAC. After a scoreless first period, Brown went on to score three goals in the second and added one more in the third en route to its fourth shutout of the season. Leading the way for the Bears was sophomore Jessica Link with two goals. Senior Kim Insalaco tallied two assists, moving her into tenth place on Brown's all-time scoring list with 119 career points.
Brown dominated the first period, out-shooting Colgate 13-5. Sophomore Rebecca Lahar was solid in net for the Red Raiders, stopping all of the Bears shots as the period went scoreless.
Brown came out strong in the second period and took a 1-0 lead four minutes in. Link knocked the puck in off a loose rebound from a shot taken by freshman Keaton Zucker. Freshman Myria Heinhuis also picked up an assist on the play. The goal was Link's 16th of the season. Just over a minute later, the Bears took a 2-0 lead when freshman Karen Thatcher tallied her ninth goal of the year. Insalaco and sophomore Katie Guay recorded assists. The Bears took advantage of a 5x3 power play to take a three-goal lead midway through the second. Link notched her second goal of the game with Insalaco and sophomore Amy McLaughlin picking up assists.
Brown continued its dominance in the final period,out-shooting the Red Raiders 18-8 and adding another goal. Zucker tallied her second point of the game and her ninth goal of the season to give the Bears a 4-0 lead at the 8:33 mark. Senior Courtney Johnson and Heinhuis earned assists on the play.
In goal, senior Pam Dreyer recorded 14 saves for her 15th career shutout. The Bears out-shot Colgate 48-14.
Brown closes out the regular season tomorrow, Saturday March 1 at 4:00 pm at Cornell.
