Feb. 15, 2008

Box Score

Potsdam, NY - Clarkson sophomore Britney Selina had a goal and three assists, as the Brown women's ice hockey team (3-18-5, 2-13-4 ECAC Hockey) lost to the #9 Golden Knights (20-6-5, 11-5-3 ECAC Hockey), 5-0 at Cheel Arena on Friday night.

After relatively even skating for the first half of the opening period, momentum shifted when the Bears were called for the game's first penalty at 12:18. Clarkson took advantage with a strong power play, converting at 13:03 when sophomore Genevieve Lavoie snuck a wrist shot from out in front through Brown goaltender Nicole Stock's (Buffalo Grove, IL) five-hole. The Golden Knights doubled their lead at 15:29, when Selina lifted a shot that hit off of Stock's mask and caromed to freshman Daris Tendler, who beat Stock before she could slide to the other side of the crease.

The Golden Knights got another goal at 13:44 in the second. With the Bears on the attacking end, Clarkson's Katie Morrison grabbed a puck that was misplayed by a Brown defenseman and broke away for a one-on-one with Stock. The Brown goaltender had stopped a similar breakaway attempt earlier in the game, but Morrison used a highlight-reel deke, dropping the puck to her left skate and kicking it back out to her stick for a quick shot, to score.

Clarkson got insurance goals from freshman Melissa Waldie and Selina in the third. Waldie's came on a long breakaway pass from Selina at 3:02. Selina then converted on a rebound from a Waldie shot at 8:32, ending the scoring.

Clarkson, sporting a league-low 7.7 penalty minutes-per-game average entering the game, was not called for its first penalty until the very end of the second period, giving Brown its first power play at the start of the third period. Each team was called for four penalties in the game.

Stock finished the game with 34 saves, her 18th game this season with 30 or more stops. Freshman Lauren Dahm made 13 saves to pick up the shutout for Clarkson.

The loss officially ends the Bears' playoff chances. On Saturday, the Bears will play their final road contest of the season at #6 St. Lawrence. The puck drops at 4 p.m.
