Women's Hockey's Comeback Falls Short As #3 Harvard Escapes With 4-3 Overtime Win

Cambridge, MA - The Brown University women's ice hockey team (12-7-2, 8-3-1) suffered a tough 4-3 loss to #3 Harvard (20-2-1, 10-2-0) in overtime Sunday afternoon at the Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, MA.

The Bears display of tough defense in the first held the Crimson to just one goal in the period. Senior Katie Germain (Sarnia, ONT) was sharp in net for Brown with 14 saves.

Both teams remained scoreless in the second until Harvard caught Brown off-guard and netted their second goal with 2:43 remaining in the period. Germain kept up her strong performance with 12 saves in the period.

Junior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) opened up the third period with her 7th goal of the season to bring the Bears within one at the 3:26 mark. Guay wound up and shot the puck from near the blue line and sent it soaring past the Harvard goalie. Sophomore Ashlee Drover (Bay Roberts, NF) and freshman Christine Holdredge (Ashley Falls, MA) tallied assists on the play. Four minutes later the Bears tied the score at two when sophomore Keaton Zucker (Gilford, NH) notched her 9th goal of the season on the power-play off passes from junior Amy

McLaughlin (Berlin, MA) and freshman Krystal Strassman (Madison, WI). However,

Harvard answered back less than a minute later to regain the lead 3-2. Brown came back strong and retied the score at three at the 11:59 mark off another power-play opportunity. Junior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, N Y) set herself up

right outside the net off passes from McLaughlin and sophomore Lindsey Glennon (Exeter, NH). Both teams remained scoreless for the remainder of the period, sending the game into overtime.

In overtime, the Crimson netted the game winner with 1:13 remaining on the clock.

The Bears will return to action, Wednesday, February 18 when they host cross-town rival Providence at 7:00 p.m.
