Providence, RI - The women's ice hockey team found themselves down early when the Lady Lakers took the puck off the draw and slammed it past freshman O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK) thirty-two seconds into the game for the early lead. The Bears now fall to 11-12-2 overall going into the final two weekends of the season.

In an early face-off Julia Colizza won a draw against junior Margaret Ramsay (Toronto, ONT) deep in the Bears' zone. Samantha Shirely took possession and muscled her way to the Brown net firing a shot past Shipe for the early lead. Brown could not get anything going offensively only getting off one shot mid-way through the first period. The Bears found themselves down by two when the Lady Lakers cashed in on a man advantage with 10:36 remaining in the period. Brown threatened late, but could not get the puck past Mercyhurst's goal minder Laura Hosier, going into the first intermission down by two.

Within a six-minute span of the second period the officiating crew called six penalties having both squads use their special teams for most of the period. Both teams racked up eleven penalties in the period. The Bears were able to convert a four on three advantage, when Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) recorded her eleventh goal of the season to cut the Lady Laker lead to one. Sophomore Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) and Ramsay recorded the assists on the goal.

With Brown on a power play early in the third junior Keaton Zucker (Gilford, NH) shot the puck across the crease of Mercyhurst where a tied up Moos was unable to finish the play keeping the Bears from tying the game at two. Brown saw another opportunity pass them by when Link gave a centering feed to junior Ashlee Drover (Bay Roberts, NF) who one timed to the puck at point blank range toward the Laker net, but goalie Laura Hosier made a quick kick save keeping Mercyhurst up by one.

The Bears will travel to St. Lawrence and Clarkson next weekend for two crucial ECACHL conference match-ups. Brown will take on the Saints on Friday February 18 at 7:00 pm and then travel to Potsdam, NY to face the Golden Knights Saturday February 19 for a 4:00 start.
