Box Score

Princeton, NJ - After spotting its hosts a four-goal lead, the Brown women's ice hockey team (7-14-2, 4-12-1 ECACHL, 2-6-0 Ivy) was unable to come back, falling to Princeton (13-9-2, 11-5-1, 4-4-0), 4-1. Freshman Sasha Van Muyen (Orillia, ON) had the Bears' lone goal on a power play in the third period, while sophomore goaltender Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL) stopped 35 shots in the loss.

The Bears nearly jumped out to a lead midway through the first period, getting several near-misses on a power play. However, it was the host Tigers who scored first on a power play of their own as Lizzie Keady passed from Stock's right, across the crease to Dina McCumber, who one-timed it home from the slot. Just 57 seconds later, Princeton struck again, as Kim Pearce put a rebound past a sprawling Stock to double the margin.

The Tigers got two more in the second, doubling their lead. The first came off another rebound at 7:50. With Stock screened after stopping two shots, Alison Ralph took advantage on a shot from her right side. At 16:35, Princeton struck again. With both teams skating four after matching roughing penalties, Stephanie Denino took a wrister from the faceoff circle to Stock's right, beating the goalie glove side.

Bruno finally got one back in the third. After a Princeton penalty ended 1:26 of a five-on-three, the Bears killed off the rest of the man-advantage, immediately going on a power play of their own. That advantage led to a goal by Van Muyen, who deflected a pass from junior leading scorer Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) past Princeton goaltender Kristen Young. The assist extended Moore's point streak to 10 games, and moved her into 21st on Brown's career point list with 95.

For the game, the Tigers outshot the Bears, 38-21, including a 16-3 advantage in the second period. Brown falls back one point in its push for the playoffs, as eighth-place Clarkson tied Cornell, 1-1 in other action, giving the Golden Knights a five-point lead with five games to play. Bruno gets back at it Saturday at 7 p.m. at Quinnipiac's brand new TD Banknorth Center, which opened last weekend.
