The Brown University women's ice hockey team (10-5-2, 6-1-1) defeated Ivy rival, Princeton (12-7-0,5-4-0), 3-1 Saturday afternoon. Junior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) and sophomore Lindsey Glennon (Exeter, NH) led the team with three and two points respectively.
The Tigers got on the board first, scoring at the 11:22 mark in the first. However, the Bears answered back to tie the score with 15 seconds remaining in the period. Link (Clifton Park, NY) netted her 14th goal of the season, second in two days on a breakaway play down the ice. Link stole the puck off a rebounded shot from Princeton and took it down the ice all alone to chuck it past the Tiger goalie.
Brown increased their lead to two 13 minutes into the second with a goal from Glennon, her third of the season. Link tallied her second point of the game with the assist on the play. Princeton had a few good scoring opportunities in the period, but the strong play of senior goaltender Katie Germain (Sarnia, ONT) kept them off the board.
Sophomore Keaton Zucker (Gilford, NH) scored her 8th goal of the season off her own rebound with under two minutes remaining in the game to give Brown a 3-1 advantage over Princeton. Glennon and Link tallied the assists on the play.
Germain was solid in goal for the Bears, stopping 27 out of 28 shots in the game.
The Bears will return to action when they travel to Cornell and Colgate Friday, February 6 and Saturday, February 7.
