Bears Upset #5 Niagara, 3-1 in Providence

For the second straight game, the Bears overcame a one goal deficit to record the win. The win avenged an earlier season loss to Niagara, when the Purple Eagles defeated the Bears 3-1 at Niagara.

The Purple Eagles got on the board first at 5:24 of the 2nd period, when Jenn Goulet netted her first goal of the season. Purple Eagle goaltender, Tania Pinelli was solid in net, stopping 13 shots in the period. The one goal lead did not last long for Niagara, as Kristy Zamora evened the score at 1-1, at 17:39 of the period. The goal was Zamora's 17th of the season. Kim Insalaco and Kerry Nugent assisted on the goal.

With just four seconds remaining in the period, Emily Sigman slipped the puck to Krissy McManus, who netted her 10th goal of the season, giving the Bears a 2-1 lead going into the final period.

In the final period, junior Pam Dreyer came up big for the Bears in net, recording 10 saves and totaling 25 on the afternoon. The Bears denied Niagara on all opportunities to tie the score. Courtney Johnson got an insurance goal at 19:38, scoring on an empty net.

Brown improves to 11-6-1 overall and 7-3-0 in the ECAC. The Bears return to action on Saturday January 26, where the team will host University of New Hampshire at 7:00pm at Meehan Auditorim.
