Box Score

Providence, RI - With 39.2 seconds remaining and the Bears skating an extra attacker, freshman Andrea Hunter (Fulton, NY) fought through a crowd in front of the net and scored to bring the Brown women's ice hockey team (5-13-2, 2-11-1) to within one goal of Colgate (11-10-1, 10-3-0). However, the tying goal was nowhere to be found for Bruno, as the Raiders took a 4-3 decision at Meehan Auditorium on Friday night.

The Bears' three goals all came with a man advantage, as the first two came on the power play. Freshman Erin Connors (Newburyport, MA) scored her fourth goal of the season to put the Bears up, 1-0, at 14:35 in the first period. Connors capitalized on a rebound from a Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) shot, which put Colgate goaltender Elayna Hamashuk out of position. Moore received her eighth assist on the play, while defenseman Krystal Strassman (Madison, WI) got her fourth assist.

Colgate tied the game with 1:03 remaining in the period, as Evan Minnick put a rebound of a Kiira Dosdall shot past Brown goaltender O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK). The Raiders took a lead while shorthanded 7:02 into the second, as Katie Stewart followed Sam Hunt's breakaway shot and put it past Shipe, who had moved to her right to stop the initial bid. Just 2:21 later, the lead extended to 3-1 as Marissa Dombovy snuck the puck between a sprawled Shipe's stick and the right post.

Moore got the Bears within one on a power play at 12:59 in the second, thanks to a deft feed from Connors. Strassman took a shot from the point that was stopped by Hamashuk, but Connors grabbed the rebound and fed it across the crease to Moore, who flicked the puck past the goaltender for her team-leading 14th goal. Connors and Strassman both picked up their fifth assist on the play.

Colgate extended its lead 2:19 into the third, as Stewart struck again. Stewart received a pass in the slot from Ashley Bradford, who was behind the net, and scored, ending Shipe's evening as sophomore Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL) came into the game. The teams played scoreless hockey until the Bears pulled Stock for an extra skater with just under a minute left, eventually getting one back on Hunter's seventh goal of the year.

Shipe made 14 saves in just over 42 minutes of work. Stock stopped 12 shots in 17:24. For the game, the Bears out-shot Colgate 32-30.

Tomorrow, the Bears host Cornell at 4 p.m., for what is essentially a must-win game to keep their playoff hopes alive. Brown is currently eight points out of the final playoff spot with eight games to go.
