Bears Heat Up, Chill Northeastern, 4-1
Jan. 16, 2007
Providence, RI - Junior captain Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) and freshman Andrea Hunter (Fulton, NY) both figured in on all four goals as the Brown women's ice hockey team (5-12-2) defeated Northeastern (3-18-1), 4-1, in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday. Moore and Hunter had two goals and two assists apiece to lead the Bears, who took a 3-0 lead less than nine minutes into the game and coasted to a victory.
Things started in the wrong direction, as Brown started the game down a player due to a protocol violation. However, after killing off the two-minute penalty, the Bears began attacking the Northeastern net. Hunter got the Bears on the board first at 2:52, taking a rebound off of a Moore shot and lifting it into the top right corner of the net. Moore scored the eventual game-winner less than four minutes later, working a give-and-go with Hunter and burying an easy shot at 6:32. Hunter scored the third Brown goal, finishing a three-on-one with linemates Moore and freshman Erin Connors (Newburyport, MA) and ending Northeastern goaltender Stacey Scott's day after just eight minutes and 46 seconds. The goal was Hunter's sixth of the season, with Moore and Connors getting their seventh and fourth assists, respectively.
Moore got the final Brown goal at 12:13 of the second period, again on a power play. This time, she finished a rebound off of Hunter's shot for her team-leading 13th goal of the season, with freshman defenseman Jenny Cedorchuk (Medfield, MA) getting her second assist of the game. Hunter got her 11th assist of the year on the play, which leads Brown. The Huskies finally got on the board at 10:55 of the third, when senior captain Amy Goodney stole the puck and sniped the top left corner for her first goal of the year. The score was the only blemish of the night for sophomore Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL), who made 23 saves, several of the spectacular variety, to pick up her fourth win.
The game marked the second time Moore and Hunter have each had two goals, the first coming in the Bears' 4-1 Mayor's Cup victory over Providence on Nov. 24. Brown out-shot Northeastern 28-24, scoring on two of its seven power plays and holding the Huskies scoreless on their five man-advantages.
Next for the Bears are ECACHL home games against Colgate and Cornell, on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
