Jan. 15, 2005
Minneapolis, MN - The women's ice hockey team dropped its third consecutive game this evening, getting shut out 5-0, by the #1 Minnesota Gophers. The Bears now stand at 10-8-1 overall and 7-5-0 in conference play.
The Gophers wasted no time picking off where they left off the night before, scoring three goals in the first frame. Ashley Albrecht scored the Gophers first goal at the 16:29 mark to give Minnesota the early lead. Senior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY) pulled a shot just wide of the net with under a minute left in the period.
Freshman Stacy Silverman (Wakefield, MA) was a wall in net for Brown in the second, shutting down the Gopher's high-powered offense. Silverman stuffed Krissy Wendell with 10:29 remaining in the period to keep the Bears within striking distance. On a quick transition with five minutes to go in the second sophomore Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) found Hayley Moore (Wakefield, MA) streaking into Minnesota's zone for a breakaway. Moore shot a back hand but Gopher goaltender Brenda Reinen got her right pad down to stop the shot and keep Brown scoreless.
The Gophers tacked on two goals in the final period for the 5-0, win. Silverman finished the game with 34 saves for Brown.
The Bears will return to action when they will host Princeton January 28 for an ECACHL match-up, with the first face-off dropped at 7:00.
