Bears Get First Weekend Sweep Since Early November

Behind Courtney Johnson's two goals and one assist the Bears improved to 9-6-1, 6-3-0 on the season. The Bears held on for the win, as Princeton managed to tie the score on two occasions in the game. The victory gives Brown its first four point weekend, since November 8 and 9, when the Bears defeated Cornell and Colgate.

Junior Mandy McCurdy opened the scoring for the Bears, netting her second goal of the season at 5:56 of the first period. McCurdy fired the puck from the blueline, which found its way past Tiger goaltender, Megan Van Beusekom. Courtney Johnson and Kim Insalaco assisted on McCurdy's goal. Princeton tied the game at 1-1, when Katharine Maglione tipped in a rebound. Time of the goal came at 15:26. The Bears would regain the lead with just over two minutes left in the first, when Johnson tallied her first goal of the night at 17:30. Krissy McManus and Insalaco assisted on the goal.

The Tigers came out flying to start the final period, lighting up the lamp at 1:12 of the third. Gretchen Anderson was credited with the goal as she finished off a breakaway opportunity. With the game looking as though it would endure an overtime period, Kim Insalaco collected the puck and skated down the left side of the ice,looking for another Bear player in front of the net. The junior found classmate Johnson, who slipped it in past Van Beukeson, makiing the final score 3-2. Time of the goal came at 13:31.

Junior Pam Dreyer was solid in the net, making 10 saves in the first period. Dryer totaled 22 saves on the night, and improved her season record in net to 5-3-1.

Brown will take to the ice next against Connecticut on January 19 at Meehan Auditorium.
