New Haven, CT - The Brown women's hockey team came away with a 7-2 win Saturday afternoon at Yale. The Bears dominated play, out-shooting the Bulldogs 51-21 in their 31st straight win over Yale. The win improves the Bears to 7-7-3 overall and 4-3 in ECAC play this season.
Brown quickly took a 1-0 lead, 1:27 into the game. Senior Courtney Johnson scored her seventh goal of the season with sophomore Jessica Link and freshman Karen Thatcher earning assists. The Bears took a 2-0 lead seven minutes in when freshman Margaret Ramsay chipped in a shot by senior Cassie Turner for her fourth goal of the year. The assist was Turner's third of the year. Sophomore Amy McLaughlin also earned an assist on the play. Ramsay netted her second goal of the game with 1:39 left on the clock to give the Bears a 3-0 lead at the end of the first. Fellow freshman Lindsey Glennon recorded an assist on the goal. Junior Katie Germain was not tested much in net as Brown out-shot the Bulldogs 21-3 in the period.
The second stanza went scoreless as Yale's freshman goalkeeper Sarah Love was solid in net, stopping all 15 of Brown's shots. The Bears did not allow the scoring drought to continue, scoring 2:21 into the final period to take a 4-0 lead. Sophomore leading-scorer Jessica Link knocked in her 12th goal of the season as Thatcher picked up her second assist of the game. Johnson also earned an assist for her second point of the game. The Bears tacked another one on five minutes later to take a 5-0 lead as Thatcher scored her first goal of the game with Brown shorthanded. Link picked up her second helper of the game and senior Many McCurdy earned her third assist of the season on the play. The goal was Thatcher's second shorthanded goal and seventh point of the week.
Junior Sarah Crowley scored her first goal of the season at the 12:40 mark to give Brown a 6-0 lead in her second game of play this season. McCurdy and Turner earned their second assists of the game on the goal. The Bears netted their fourth goal of the period at the 14:57 mark. Sophomore Kerry Nugent sent chipped in a hard shot taken by junior Katie Lafleur from the left face-off circle for her fourth goal of the season. Senior Kim Insalaco picked up an assist on the goal as well. Yale put two goals on the board before the final buzzer for a final score of 7-2.
Brown returns to action on Friday, Jan. 17, at 7:00 p.m. versus St. Lawrence at home.
