Hamilton, NY - The women's ice hockey team (9-5-1, 6-4-0 ECACHL) suffered their first loss in six games, by a score of 2-1 to the Colgate University Raiders (7-8-1, 2-4-1 ECACHL) this evening in Hamilton, NY. The Bears couldn't get it going offensively only getting off 17 shots to Colgate's 21.
The Bears found themselves down early, when Colgate converted a goal mid-way through the first. Brown pressured late in the period on a power play. The Bears had a five on three advantage, but couldn't find the back of the net. Colgate dominated the second period out shooting the Bears 11-4, tacking on another goal giving the Raiders a two goal advantage going into the second intermission. Freshman O'Hara Shipe (Anchorage, AK) kept the Bears in it making 19 saves in the crease.
With Brown desperate to get something going on offense, coach Murphy pulled Shipe with two minutes remaining in the game to add an extra skater. Senior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) fed a pass to junior Lindsey Glennon (Exter, NH) deep in the Colgate zone. Glennon took the puck behind the Raider net and wrapped around the right side the net slamming the puck past the Raider's goalie to give the Bears life late in the game. Off the face-off Shipe again came out, but Brown was unable to score the equalizer, suffering their first loss in six games.
The Bears will wrap up their weekend tomorrow January 8, when they travel to Ithaca, NY to take on Cornell University for a 4:00 start. In the first meeting this season between the two squads, Brown handed Cornell a 4-1 loss.
