The Brown University women's ice hockey team (6-4-1, 2-0-0) captured the second game of their two-game series with Niagara University (2-11-3) defeating the Eagles 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Dwyer Arena.
After battling to a 3-3 tie Saturday night both teams came out strong in the first. Brown dominated most of the first period out shooting the Eagles 20-4. However, Niagara dominated the face-offs 14-8. The game remained scoreless going into the second period.
Brown took control of the game in the second scoring their first goal just under eight minutes into the period. Junior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) notched her fourth goal of the season off a rebound that sent Niagara's goalie scrambling in front of the net. Less than a minute later the Bears took a 2-0 advantage with a goal from junior Jessica Link (Clifton Park, NY). Junior Kerry Nugent (Andover, MA) and sophomore Keaton Zucker tallied assists on the play.
Brown sealed the victory in the third with a goal from Nugent, her fifth of the season and third against Niagara this weekend. Sophomore Margaret Ramsay (Toronto, ONT) added an assist on the play. The Eagles added a late goal in the third with two minutes remaining in the game.
Goaltender Katie Germain (Sarnia, ONT) had 17 saves in the game for the Bears.
