Women’s Hockey Blanks Dartmouth, 1-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Freshman Sarah Migliori (East Greenwich, R.I.) scored the only goal of the day as the Brown women's hockey team shut out Dartmouth, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium. The blanking was senior Monica Elvin's (Oakland, Calif.) first-career shutout in net. The win marks the Bears' first win over the Big Green since March 4, 2006, also a shutout at Meehan Auditorium (3-0).

Migliori scored her third goal of the season at 14:43 of the first period when she collected her own rebound and gave the Bears a 1-0 lead, an advantage they would not surrender. Junior Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) and sophomore Bridget Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) assisted on the score.

The Bears' defense only allowed three shots on frame in the opening period, as the team held a 14-3 advantage in shots. Brown had all three power plays in the period but was 0-for-3.

Brown (5-16-0, 3-11-0 ECAC) again kept Dartmouth (5-15-0, 3-11-0 ECAC) off the board in the second, with Elvin posting 10 saves. The Big Green had the only power-plays in the period, with Brown fighting off both infractions.

In the third, Brown continued the offensive pressure, edging Dartmouth in shots for the stanza, 7-6. The Bears fought off two key penalties in the period. Dartmouth was called for too many skaters on the ice at 19:01 and Brown was able to run the clock down for the victory.

Elvin finished the contest with 19 saves while Robyn Chemago had 30 for Dartmouth. Both teams were 0-for-4 on the power play.

The Bears will next play in a home-and-home series against Yale on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28. Friday's game will be played at Ingalls Rink at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's puck drop at Meehan Auditorium will be at 3:00 p.m.
