HAMDEN, Conn. – Ten different Bobcats registered points as the Brown women's hockey team suffered a 5-0 defeat to No. 10 Quinnipiac in ECAC Hockey play at High Point Solutions Arena on Saturday.
Junior Brittany Moorehead (Clinton, N.Y.) rattled off six shots on goal and won nine faceoffs to lead Brown (4-18-5, 3-14-3 ECAC), while senior goalie Aubree Moore (Bowie, Md.) made 29 saves, including 13 stops in the first period alone.
Morgan Fritz-Ward led the Bobcats (18-5-9, 9-4-7 ECAC) with a pair of goals and Kelly Babstock, the country's ninth-ranked scorer, registered a goal and an assist. Amanda Colin added two assists for the third Quinnipiac player with multiple points, while goalie Sydney Rossman played 56:32 of shutout hockey with 18 saves.
Babstock got her team on the board with a five-hole marker following a turnover in the Brown zone at 11:04 in the first period. Meghan Turner struck next on the last of a series of passes, posting up for the shot from the far post to put the Bobcats up 2-0 at 18:44.
The Bears had the benefit of three Quinnipiac penalties in the second period, but the Bobcats killed off each one as the two sides combined to go 0-for-4 on power play opportunities.
Fritz-Ward earned the first of her two markers on the tail end of an odd-man rush, smacking in the one-timer at 15:11 in the second. She added the first of two late third period goals when she pushed in Olivia Brackett's feed from behind the net with seven minutes to play. Emma Woods took care of an insurance goal at 18:41 and tightened her grip on the point lead among ECAC rookies.
The Bears return to Meehan for the final weekend of the regular season, beginning with an Ivy League clash against Dartmouth on Friday, Feb. 21. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
