  • Women’s Hockey Places 17 on ECAC All-Academic Team

    ALBANY, N.Y. – The Brown women’s hockey team placed 17 players on the ECAC All-Academic Team, leading the league for the second season in a row, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Brown tied with Quinnipiac and Rensselaer with 17 honorees each as 156 student-athletes were recognized for their academic achievements.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women’s ice hockey coach Amy Bourbeau announced on Tuesday that eight incoming freshmen will join the Bears roster for the 2014-15 season: Caroline Buckholtz (Greenlawn, N.Y.), Rachael Cholak (Kenosha, Wis.), Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.), Cynthia Kyin (Skokie, Ill.), Julianne Landry (Hanover, Mass.), Kaitlin Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.), Samantha Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.) and Dara Wais (Baltimore, Md.).

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rising senior Lauren Vella (Staten Island, N.Y.) has been named team captain while classmate Kaitlyn Keon (Toronto, Ontario) and rising junior Alli Rolandelli (Minnetonka, Minn.) have been named assistant captains, it was announced by Head Coach Amy Bourbeau at the Brown women’s hockey banquet. The Bears also handed out several team awards to honor individual accomplishments from the 2013-14 season.
  • Robson Becomes First Woman to Earn NEHWA Unsung Hero Award

    BOSTON, Mass. – Brown women’s hockey junior Sarah Robson (Mississauga, Ontario) has been named the Joe Tomasello Award Unsung Hero by the New England Hockey Writers Association, becoming the first female to do so. Robson’s historical accolade puts her alongside some of the best men’s college hockey players in the country, including back-to-back Leonard Fowle Award winner Johnny Gaudreau of Boston College, the nation’s Most Valuable Player as voted by the NEHWA.

    PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The Brown University women’s hockey team took the ice to skate with members of the Greater Providence Youth Hockey Association (GPYHA) during the group’s Special Hockey session at Dennis Lynch Arena on Saturday. Members of the Bears squad guided the crew of nearly two dozen youth hockey players through skill instruction and an organized game.

    HAMILTON, N.Y. – Senior Vanessa Welten (Crysler, Ontario) potted the tying goal in the third period to force overtime, but Colgate’s Taylor Volpe fired in the game-winner with 45 seconds left to play to give the Raiders a 3-2 win over the Brown women’s hockey team in ECAC Hockey action at Starr Rink on Friday. The contest was the ninth overtime decision for the Bears this season, tying the program record set by the 2011-12 team.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Brittany Moorehead (Clinton, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season to give the Brown women’s hockey team a lead that would last into the third period, but Yale unleashed a three-goal outburst in the final stanza to defeat the Bears, 3-1, in ECAC Hockey action at Meehan Auditorium on Saturday. The Bulldogs (7-10-4, 5-5-4 ECAC) emerge from the home-and-home series with a 1-0-1 mark over the Bears (2-14-5, 1-10-3 ECAC) following last night’s 2-2 tie in New Haven, Conn.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The nation’s top defense clamped down on the Brown women’s hockey team as No. 5/6 Clarkson ran away with 4-1 win in ECAC Hockey action at Meehan Auditorium on Saturday. Senior goalie Aubree Moore (Bowie, Md.) made 45 saves and sophomore Alli Rolandelli (Minnetonka, Minn.) tallied her first career goal late in the third period for Brown (2-13-4, 1-9-2 ECAC), but the Golden Knights (17-4-3, 8-2-2 ECAC) offense proved too fierce and fired 49 shots on goal to extend their unbeaten streak to seven games.

The draw snaps a three-game losing skid for the Bears, while the Big Green move to 4-12-1 overall and 3-7-1 in ECAC play.
  • Women’s Hockey Shut Out at No. 4 Harvard, 3-0

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Despite staunch Brown defense in a scoreless second period, the Brown women’s hockey team suffered a 3-0 defeat to No. 4 Harvard in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center on Friday evening. The Crimson (12-1-2, 8-1-1 ECAC) snapped the Bears’ (1-12-3, 0-8-1 ECAC) streak of 16 games with a goal, dating back to last year’s season-ending 4-0 loss at Quinnipiac on Feb. 23, 2013.
