Brown Women's Ice Hockey Honors Seven Student-Athletes With Team Awards

PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND – The Brown women's ice hockey team held its annual awards banquet on Saturday, April 13th at the Faculty Club, and seven different student-athletes were honored with team awards. Head coach Amy Bourbeau also used the evening to recount the team's success this season, both on and off the ice, and recognize the dedication and contributions of the Brown women's ice hockey class of 2013: Katie Jamieson (Waterloo, Ontario), Laurie Jolin (Lachine, Montreal), Alexandra Piersiak (Needham, MA), Alena Polenska (Kutna Hora, Czech Republic) and Victoria Smith (Montreal, Quebec).

The Academic Excellence Award is given annually to the upperclassman who has the highest cumulative GPA, and the 2013 award recipient was junior Vanessa Welten (Crysler, Ontario).

The Great Teammmate Award is given to the player that is most supportive of her teammates. She is well respected, trustworthy and someone who can always be counted on. The 2013 award recipient was freshman Ali Rolandelli (Minnetonka, MN).

The recipient of the 2013 Excellence in Strength and Conditioning Award was junior Aubree Moore (Bowie, MD).

The recipient of the 2013 Most Improved Award was sophomore Kaitlyn Keon (Toronto, Ontario).

The Alli McMillan "Unsung Hero" Award is awarded annually to the player who exemplifies true dedication to Brown women's hockey and adds tremendously to the overall success of the team, but doesn't necessarily get the recognition she deserves. The 2013 award recipient was senior co-captain Laurie Jolin (Lachine, Montreal).

The recipient of the 2013 Most Valuable Player Award was senior co-captain Alena Polenska (Kutna Hora, Czech Republic).

The Panda Cup is awarded annually to the member of the Brown women's ice hockey team who, for the past season, has demonstrated outstanding team spirit, good sportswomanship and dedication to playing ice hockey. The 2013 award recipient was senior Victoria Smith (Montreal, Quebec).

Finally, the Bears presented the 2013 Team Contribution Award to Hope Brothers '44 for her dedication to the Brown women's ice hockey program.
