Brown Places 19 on 2012-2013 ECAC Hockey Women's All-Academic Team
The Brown women’s ice hockey team put forth an impressive academic showing during the 2012-2013 season, placing 19 student-athletes on the ECAC Hockey All-Academic team. Additionally, the squad was one of only two women’s programs in the league to earn a perfect NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR), as the Bears and the Colgate Raiders each posted scores of 1,000. Both the men’s and women’s ice hockey programs at Brown netted perfect scores, distinguishing the university as the only Division I hockey program to accomplish that feat.

Brown Ends Season with 4-0 Loss to Quinnipiac
The Brown women’s ice hockey team (6-20-1, 5-17-0 ECAC) fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats (19-10-4, 13-6-3 ECAC) this afternoon in its final game of the 2012-2013 season. With the loss, the Bears finish their campaign with a 6-20-1 record, including 5-17-0 in the ECAC.

Brown's Quest for a Playoff Spot Ends With a 2-1 Loss to Princeton
The Brown women’s ice hockey team (6-19-1, 5-16-0 ECAC) put up a brave fight, but ultimately saw its playoff hopes slip away with a 2-1 loss to the Princeton Tigers (11-15-2, 6-13-2 ECAC) in tonight’s ECAC Hockey contest at Meehan Auditorium. The teams combined for three goals over the course of the first period, but the goalies held the game scoreless for the next 40 minutes to give the visitors the victory.

Brown's Playoff Fate Rests on Two Games at Meehan Auditorium This Weekend
After earning its first weekend sweep in four years a week ago, the Brown women's ice hockey team (6-18-1, 5-15-0 ECAC) will conclude the 2012-2013 regular season at Meehan Auditorium this weekend with games against the Princeton Tigers (10-15-2, 5-13-2 ECAC) and the Quinnipiac Bobcats (17-10-4, 11-6-3 ECAC). The contests will determine the play-off fates of both the Tigers and the Bears, as neither team has secured a berth in the post season coming into tonight’s game. Currently, Princeton sits in the eighth spot in the ECAC standings with 12 points, with Brown lurking just two points behind in tenth. A win for the Bears tonight would move them into a tie with the Tigers going into the final game of the regular season.

Jamieson Makes An Impressive 47 Saves in Brown's 5-2 Loss to #5 Harvard
The Brown women’s ice hockey team (6-18-1, 5-15-0 ECAC) fell to the #5 Harvard Crimson (20-4-2, 16-2-1 ECAC) tonight, 5-2, in an Ivy League and ECAC match-up at the Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Senior goaltender Katie Jamieson (Waterloo, Ontario) made a season-high 47 saves between the pipes to keep the Bears in the game, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Crimson’s lethal offense.

Alena Polenska Named ECAC Player of the Week
Senior co-captain Alena Polenska (Kutna Hora, Czech Republic) has been named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending February 17, 2013. Polenska returned to the Bears this weekend after spending two weeks competing in Olympic qualification competitions with the Czech Republic National team, and proved to be one of the driving forces in Brown’s first weekend sweep since January of 2009, earning a plus-4 ranking for the weekend.

The Brown women’s ice hockey team (6-17-1, 5-14-0 ECAC) grabbed a crucial league victory this afternoon at Meehan Auditorium, defeating the Rensselaer Engineers (10-18-4, 8-10-2 ECAC) and completing the weekend sweep after earning a 2-1 win over Union last night.

Brown to Take on Union and Rensselaer in Crucial Weekend of ECAC Play
After traveling through a blizzard to play the Dartmouth Big Green last Friday, the Brown women's ice hockey team (4-17-1, 3-14-0 ECAC) will return to Meehan Auditorium this weekend to take on the Union Dutchwomen (7-20-3, 0-15-3 ECAC) and the Rensselaer Engineers (9-17-4, 7-9-2 ECAC) in two league contests. Currently, Brown is 2-9-1 at home this season, earning wins against Maine and Yale, and tying its cross-town rival, Providence, to retain the Mayor’s Cup in November. Union and Rensselaer have records of 3-12-0 and 4-9-1, respectively, on the road. This weekend's match-ups will have a significant impact on the ECAC standings, as the Bears currently sit five points out of the eighth and final playoff spot.

The Brown women’s ice hockey team (5-17-1, 4-14-0 ECAC) completed a season sweep of the Union Dutchwomen (7-21-3, 0-16-3 ECAC) with a 2-1 win in tonight’s ECAC contest at Meehan Auditorium. The Bears jumped out to an early lead and fought off a third period rally by the visitors to earn their fourth league win of the season and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Senior Laurie Jolin (Lachine, Montreal) scored the Bears’ lone goal.

Brown Hits the Road for Games Against Quinnipiac and Princeton
The Brown women’s ice hockey team (4-14-1, 3-11-0 ECAC) will begin its final stretch of regular-season road games this weekend, traveling to face the Quinnipiac Bobcats (14-9-2, 8-5-1 ECAC) and the Princeton Tigers (7-12-2, 2-10-2 ECAC), the only two ECAC teams that the Bears have yet to face this season. With just eight contests left to determine each team’s play-off fate, the fight for the eighth and final spot continues to heat up. Brown and Princeton, each with six points, are currently tied for tenth place in the league, just a point behind Yale and Colgate, while Quinnipiac sits solidly in fifth place.

The Brown women’s ice hockey team (4-14-1, 3-11-0 ECAC) took an early lead but ultimately fell, 4-2, to #4 Cornell (16-4-0, 12-2-0 ECAC) in this afternoon’s ECAC contest at Meehan Auditorium. Goaltender Aubree Moore (Bowie, MD) made 34 saves and freshman Emma Pearson (Richmond Hill, Ontario) scored her first career goal, but the Big Red couldn’t be stopped, playing just out of reach of the Bears.

The Brown women’s ice hockey team (4-12-1, 3-9-0 ECAC) will welcome the Colgate Raiders (6-14-3, 1-8-3 ECAC) and the Cornell Big Red (14-4-0, 10-2-0 ECAC) to Meehan Auditorium this weekend to kick off another round of ECAC action in Providence. With the bottom five teams in the league separated by three points as they vie for a spot in the play-offs, this weekend’s contests will play a crucial role in determining the Bears’ route to the post-season.

Women's Ice Hockey Raises Over $6,000 For The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society In Score For Survivors Fundraiser
On Monday, January 21 the Brown women’s ice hockey team hosted a Score for Survivors fundraiser at Meehan Auditorium. The players and coaches raised over $6,000 dollars that will be donated to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of Angelica Negron, the team’s newest member by way of Team Impact.

Brown Plays Tough to Earn a 2-1 Win Over Yale
The Brown women’s ice hockey team (4-12-1, 3-9-0 ECAC) built an early lead and then held on through two scoreless periods to earn a 2-1 victory over ECAC and Ivy foe Yale (3-15-1, 2-9-1 ECAC) tonight at Meehan Auditorium. The win, the Bears’ third league victory of the season, lifts the team into a tie for eighth-place with the Princeton Tigers and back into play-off contention. Senior goaltender Katie Jamieson (Waterloo, Ontario) was impressive in the win, withstanding a lot of pressure from the Yale offense and making 27 saves over the course of the night.

The Brown women’s ice hockey team (3-12-1, 2-9-0 ECAC) scored the first and last goals of tonight’s league contest, but ultimately fell, 3-2, to the Yale Bulldogs (3-14-1, 2-8-1 ECAC) at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Connecticut. Each of the Bears’ co-captains notched a goal in the match-up, while junior Jessica Hoyle (Toronto, Ontario) added two assists, completing her second consecutive multi-point game.

Brown Looks to Climb the ECAC Standings in a Home-and-Home Series Against Yale
The Brown women’s ice hockey team (3-11-1, 2-8-0 ECAC) will head to New Haven, Connecticut today for the first game in a home-and-home series with the squad from Yale (2-14-1, 1-8-1 ECAC). The Bears are currently in a tie with the Colgate Raiders for ninth place in the ECAC hockey standings with four points, while the Bulldogs are locked with the Union Dutchwomen in the 11th place spot with three points. With playoff berths granted to the top eight teams in the league and the bottom half of the standings separated by just five points, this weekend’s contests, the 78th and 79th between the two Ivy League schools, will play a crucial role in Brown’s push to the post-season.

In spite of a late game rally, the Brown women’s ice hockey team (3-11-1, 2-8-0 ECAC) lost a heartbreaker to St. Lawrence (13-8-1, 8-2-0 ECAC) in this afternoon’s league contest held at Meehan Auditorium. Three different Bears found the back of the net in the loss, and junior goaltender Aubree Moore (Bowie, MD) made 18 big saves in 27:49 of play to keep her squad in the game.

The Brown women’s ice hockey team (3-10-1, 2-7-0 ECAC) put forth a valiant effort, but ultimately fell 2-1 to #5/6 Clarkson (16-5-0, 8-1-0 ECAC) in tonight’s ECAC hockey contest at Meehan Auditorium. The Bears exerted continuous offensive pressure, backed by solid breakouts and effective passing sequences, while also playing strong defense, but the Golden Knights skated away with the win on the heels of Brittany Styner’s two goals. Junior Jessica Hoyle (Toronto, Ontario) scored Brown’s lone goal, her second of the season.

After closing out their non-league schedule with two games against the University of Maine Black Bears last weekend, the Brown women’s ice hockey team (3-9-1, 2-6-0 ECAC) continues their quest for a playoff berth with home contests against #5/6 Clarkson (15-5-0, 7-1-0 ECAC) and St. Lawrence (11-8-1, 6-2-0 ECAC). With just seven weeks remaining in the regular season, the Golden Knights sit in fourth place in the league, just two points ahead of the Saints who are holding on to the fifth spot with 12 points. The Bears are currently tied for ninth with the Colgate Raiders, as both teams earned four points in the 2012 portion of the season.

The Brown women’s ice hockey team (3-9-1, 2-6-0 ECAC) withstood a late rally from the University of Maine (3-15-1, 1-8-0 Hockey East) to grab a 6-5 win in today’s non-league contest at Meehan Auditorium. The Bears, who had scored just 12 goals coming into the game, were prolific on offense this afternoon, with Lauren Vella (Staten Island, NY) and senior co-captain Laurie Jolin (Lachine, Montreal) each tallying a career-high three points to lead the charge.

Brown Set for Back-to-Back Home Games Against Maine
The Brown women’s ice hockey team (2-8-1, 2-6-0 ECAC) returns to Meehan Auditorium this weekend for the first time since they defended the Mayor’s Cup in a 2-2 tie with the Providence College Friars on Friday, November 23, as they take on the University of Maine (2-14-1, 1-8-0 Hockey East) in a two-game series. Saturday’s game marks the eleventh time that the two schools have competed, with Brown leading the overall series, 7-1-2. The two teams squared off for the first time on February 19, 1999, with Brown skating to a 10-0 victory on home ice. Maine’s sole win over the Bears occurred at Alfond Arena on March 4, 2001, with the Black Bears grabbing a narrow, 3-2 victory. After a six-year hiatus, the teams played a two-game series in Orono last season, tying both contests, 4-4 and 0-0.

In their first contest of the new year, the Brown women’s ice hockey team (2-9-1, 2-6-0 ECAC) fell to the University of Maine Black Bears (3-14-1, 1-8-0 WHEA), 4-2, in the first game of a back-to-back weekend series. Maine scored two goals in each of the last two periods, and, despite a third period surge, Brown was unable to fight back for the win. Sophomores Sarah Robson (Mississauga, Ontario) and Brittany Moorehead (Clinton, NY) both tallied goals for the Bears, while junior Aubree Moore (Bowie, MD) stopped 21 of the Black Bears 25 shots in her eighth start of the season.

Junior goaltender Aubree Moore (Bowie, MD) made 33 saves to earn her first career shutout, as the Bears triumphed over the Dutchwomen, 1-0, this afternoon at Messa Rink. Brown improved to 2-8-1 (2-6-0 ECAC) on the season with the win, while Union dropped to 3-9-3 (0-5-3 ECAC).

The game, the first of two that the Bears will play in Montreal in a weekend of exhibition competition, marks the second time this season that Brown has tallied four goals in a contest.

Brown Looks to Defend Title in the 18th Annual Mayor's Cup
The Brown women’s hockey team (1-7-0, 1-5-0 ECAC) will take to the ice at Meehan Auditorium tomorrow for the 18th annual Mayor’s Cup game against their cross-town rival, the Providence College Friars (7-5-3, 5-2-2 Hockey East). While Providence leads the overall series between the two teams, 32-23-2, Brown has won nine of the 17 battles for bragging rights in Rhode Island, beginning with the inaugural contest held during the 1995-1996 season. Head Coach Amy Bourbeau, in her second year behind the Bears’ bench, led the team to a 2-1 victory over her alma mater last November, with Janice Yang ’15 and Brittany Moorehead ’15 each tallying a goal for Brown. The team will look for a repeat performance tomorrow, as the Bears strive for their second win in the young season.

Mayor Angel Tavares was on hand to present the trophy to the captains of both squads, but, as Brown was victorious in last year’s game, the Bears will keep the cup on College Hill for another season.

Senior co-captain Laurie Jolin (Lachine, Montreal) scored her first goal of the season and goaltender Aubree Moore (Bowie, MD) made 18 saves, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the speed and aggression of the visitors.

Brown Returns to Meehan Auditorium for a Two Game Series Against RIT
The Brown women’s ice hockey team (1-5-0, 1-5-0 ECAC) returns to Meehan Auditorium this weekend for a two game series against the Rochester Institute of Technology (4-4-2, 1-2-2 CHA), their first non-conference competition of the 2012-2013 season. The two schools have not met since February of 1995, when the Bears triumphed, 7-0, at Ritter Arena in Rochester, New York. Friday’s game will be the first of three home contests for Brown before they end the month of November with a trip to Canada to face the University of Montreal and McGill.

Brown Battles #3 Clarkson, Falling, 2-1
The Brown University women’s ice hockey team wrapped up their road weekend with a hard-fought loss to the third-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights. Since the start of the 2012-2013 campaign, the Bears have faced three of the top ten teams in the country and, while they have not yet emerged victorious, they have played extremely impressive hockey, loosing each contest by a slim margin. Tonight’s result brings Brown to 1-5-0 on the season, with a 1-5-0 league mark, while Clarkson improves to 10-2 and a 4-0 undefeated record in ECAC play.

The Brown women's ice hockey team (1-3-0, 1-3-0 ECAC) will head to New York for the second time this season, as it continues ECAC play against St. Lawrence (4-5-0, 2-0-0 ECAC) and #3 Clarkson (8-2-0, 2-0-0 ECAC). The Bears will play eight of their fourteen games before the holiday break on the road, taking three separate trips to the Empire State and one to Montreal. This weekend also marks the third time this season that Brown will face a ranked opponent, as they have been defeated by #2 Cornell (2-0) and #6 Harvard (3-0) in tightly fought contests.

Friday’s game, scheduled to start at 7:00pm, features the Harvard Crimson (2-0-0), currently ranked sixth in the nation, while Saturday’s match-up, a 4:00pm start, pits the Bears against the Dartmouth Big Green (1-1-0).

Brown Scores Early and Often to Triumph over Colgate, 4-1
The Brown women's ice hockey team (1-1-0, 1-1-0) capped off its first road weekend of the 2012-2013 season with a 4-1 win over the Colgate University Raiders (2-6-0, 0-2-0) at Starr Rink in Hamilton, NY. Four different players found the back of the net in the Bears' win, and freshmen Alli Rolandelli (Minnetonka, MN) and Lauren Zary (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) each earned their first career assist. Aubree Moore (Bowie, MD) guarded the net closely in her first start, making 26 saves to ensure the team its first victory and ECAC triumph of the season.

Brown Women’s Ice Hockey Opens Season on the Road at No. 2 Cornell and Colgate
Brown women’s ice hockey opens it’s season on the road this weekend and it all begins with a bang as the Bears face the team that knocked them out of the ECAC Hockey playoffs last year, the No. 2 nationally-ranked Cornell Big Red. The two teams will square off on Friday, October 28, at 3 p.m., at Lynah Rink. Bruno will then head to Colgate for a showdown against the Raiders at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 29.

Brown Goes Toe-to-Toe With No. 2 Cornell in 2-0 Loss
Facing the No. 2 team in the country, on the road, against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs to open the season would be a daunting task for any team, but Brown women’s hockey gave Cornell all it could handle on Friday afternoon at Lynah Rink, posting a scoreless first period and a one-goal game with 28 seconds left before an eventual 2-0 Big Red win. Senior goaltender Katie Jamieson (Waterloo, Ontario) stood on her head all game, allowing just one goal to a potent offense while making 35 saves.

Polenska Uses Offseason to Hone Skills with Czech Republic National Team
After an exciting Brown women’s hockey season in 2011-2012, finishing second on the team in goals and third in both points and assists, senior co-captain Alena Polenska (Kutna Hora, Czech Republic), returned home for the summer. She did not, however, forget about hockey. From August 29 to September 2, Polenska trained at a hockey camp for the Czech Republic Senior Women’s National Team, of which she is the captain.

Brown Ranked Ninth in ECAC Hockey Preseason Coaches Poll
After making the postseason for the first time in five seasons, the Brown Women’s Ice Hockey team has been picked to finish ninth overall in the 2012-13 Preseason Poll as selected by the conference’s head coaches. Brown finished just six points back of eighth-ranked RPI for the potential final playoff spot.

Bourbeau Announces 2012-13 Women’s Ice Hockey Schedule
Head coach Amy Bourbeau has announced the women’s ice hockey team’s schedule for the upcoming 2012-2013 season. The Bears will compete in 31 games, including 17 home contests at Meehan Auditorium. In addition to a challenging ECAC Hockey & Ivy League lineup, this season will also call for a bit of international travel as the Bears ship up to Canada at the end of November to face McGill and the University of Montreal.
