PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown returned to the ice for the first time in almost a month but ran into a tough opponent in No. 3 Boston University. The Bears got some early power play opportunities, but the Terrier offense shown through, tallying four goals in the first two periods to secure a 4-0 win.
The Bears (2-9-2) got three player-advantage opportunities in the first period but it was BU that was able to light the lamp, tallying two goals in the first frame.
Brown's best opportunity in the first period came with three minutes to go, when sophomores Alena Polenksa (Kutna Hora, Czech Republic) and Kelly Griffin (Apex, N.C.) both got open looks and fired shots on goal, but BU netminder Alissa Fromkin denied both chances.
Freshman Emilie Dolan (Montreal West, Quebec) nearly cut the deficit in half seven minutes into the second, positioning herself in front of the net, firing a shot that went just wide.
Boston kept its momentum rolling in the second stanza, tallying its third goal on a power play score from Jen Wakefield, who tallied 10 shots in the game, at the 9:42 mark.
The Terrier's fourth goal came just over a minute later, when Taylor Holze found the back of the net.
BU put a barrage of shots on net, and despite the scores, sophomore goalie Katie Jamieson (Waterloo, Ontario) played very well, stopping 31 shots.
The Bears are back in action this weekend as they complete a stretch of three games in six days. Brown hosts Colgate on Friday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. before taking on No. 1 Cornell on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m.
