PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Bears open their 2010-11 schedule with a tough road test at No. 8 Boston College on Sunday afternoon. Even though it is just the first game of the season for Brown, the Eagles have already compiled a 4-0 record, winning every game on the road. The two teams have not met since the 2006 season.
Brown enters the game with scrimmage victories over Princeton and Yale as well as a 5-2 exhibition win over Canada's Etobicoke. In the matchup against the Dolphins of Etibocoke, sophomore forward Alena Polenska (Kutna Hora, Czech Republic) got two past the opposing netminder to power the offense.
Senior co-captains Jenna Dancewicz (Lake Forest, Ill.), Erica Kromm (Naramata, British Columbia) and Samantha Stortini (Sudbury, Ontario) look to lead head coach Digit Murphy's 21st Brown Bear hockey team back to the ECAC Hockey Championships.
Kromm was the team-leader in 2009 with seven assists and was second on the squad with 10 points. Dancewicz did it all on the offensive end last season as she tallied four goals and five assists. Stortini is the anchor of the back line and will once again be relied upon to stand up a staunch defense.
Polenska, who was second on the team with five goals last season, was named the captain of the Czech Olympic Developmental Team this off-season and looks to improve upon an impressive rookie campaign. Classmate Katie Jamieson (Waterloo, Ontario) laid claim to the Bears' leading net-minder position last season and is poised to improve upon 855 saves and three shutouts in her freshman year.
Brown welcomes seven newcomers to this year's roster. All are freshman, but should make an impact on different lines this season.
