Providence, R.I. - Freshman hockey player Laurie Jolin was named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week on Monday after helping Brown to its first league win of the season over the weekend in an overtime upset of Princeton. The victory marked the second consecutive season in which Brown has knocked off the Tigers on the road in overtime, and dashed Princeton's hopes for home ice in the playoffs.
On Friday night, Jolin assisted on an early goal while helping Brown come back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game at three, forcing an extra period. With less than a minute to go, it appeared that the contest would end in a tie, but Jolin found the goal for the fourth time in 2009-10, giving the Bears thrilling win and picking up her second point of the game.
A day later, Jolin lit the lamp again in an afternoon game against Quinnipiac, scoring in the second period for Brown's lone goal of the game. The score marked the third consecutive game in which Jolin found the net, and capped off a run of five points in three games to close out her freshman season.
On the year, Jolin has quickly become an integral part of Brown's attack, spending the majority of her rookie season on the top line. She leads the team in assists and total points with eight and 13 respectively, and is tied for second in goals scored with five.
