Bears Fall to Cornell 4-0
Providence, R.I. – Despite a solid effort from rookie
goalie Katie Jamieson (Waterloo, ON), who had 36 saves, the Bears
lost a tough 4-0 game to a strong Cornell squad, which had been
receiving votes in the national power polls. With the loss,
Brown falls to 2-19-4 on the season, including 0-16-3 in league
play, while Cornell improves to 12-8-6 overall, and 11-2-6 against
ECAC opponents.
The first period began relatively quietly, with no scoring or
penalties for the first 10 minutes of play. Cornell finally
broke through with just under six minutes left in the period
though, tipping in an even strength goal to take the early 1-0
lead. Though the Bears had a power play opportunity at the
end of the frame, the Big Red’s penalty kill was able to keep
Brown off the board.
Cornell came out hot in the second, racking up 18 shots in the
period, and notching a pair of goals in the first six minutes of
play. The Big Red scored their second of the evening at the
4:37 mark, and then picked up another at 5:31, pulling away for a
3-0 lead that would hold up through the second intermission.
In the third, the Bears had several chances to score, but a pair of
penalties on Brown kept Cornell on the attack for much of the
frame, and the Big Red added a final goal with just under five
minutes to play. From that point on, the score remained 4-0 through
the final buzzer, giving Brown its 10th shutout of the season.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they
close out their home schedule by hosting the Colgate Raiders at
4:00 p.m.
