Playing their second nationally ranked team in as many nights, Brown turned in another impressive performance, but Bruno was unable to overcome St. Lawrence, falling 3-1 despite rookie Katie Jamieson's 37 saves. Senior Sasha Van Muyen scored her second goal of the season to keep the Bears in it, but the Saints' defense proved too tough for the Brown attack.
With the loss, the Bears fall to 1-3-0 so far this season, and 0-2-0 in league play, while St. Lawrence improves to 4-2-3 overall and 2-1-0 against ECAC Hockey opponents.
The first period was a wild one at Appleton Arena, with both sides scoring in the opening 20 minutes. St. Lawrence struck first, scoring a power play goal just six minutes into the contest for the early lead. However, the Bears answered back at the 11:36 mark, as Van Muyen knocked in her second of the year, beating the Saints for the unassisted goal to tie the game.
St. Lawrence was able to add another extra man score near the end of the frame, however, with the second goal eventually turning out to be the game-winner. The Saints added an insurance goal midway through the second period as well, once again taking advantage of a power play opportunity.
Jamieson, playing in just her fourth collegiate game, turned in another strong performance, making double digit saves in each period to finish with 37, and not allowing an even strength goal. Rookie Erica Farrer and junior Jenna Dancewicz also helped keep the pressure on the Saints, combining for seven shots on goal.
The Bears will be back in action on Friday, November 6, when they return home to host the Quinnipiac Bobcats at 7:00 p.m.
