The Brown women’s hockey team dropped a heartbreaker to #3 Clarkson in its league opener on Friday evening, falling 1-0 on a four-on-four goal scored midway through the third period. Rookie goalie Katie Jamieson played another very strong game, making 33 saves to keep the Bears within range of the upset throughout while allowing just the single goal. With the loss, Brown falls to 1-2-0 on the season, while Clarkson improves to 8-1-1 overall and 2-0-0 in ECAC Hockey play.
The Golden Knights played tremendous defense throughout the game, holding Brown's attack to just nine shots, earning Clarkson's third shutout in just nine games. Bruno was nearly as strong, however, led by Jamieson, who stopped all eight Clarkson shots in the first period. The Golden Knights continued pushing in the second, but Jamieson was again up to the task, making ten saves in the frame to preserve the shutout. However, Clarkson finally broke through in the third period, notching the first goal of the game at the 12:55 mark after penalty calls on both teams led to a four-on-four situation.
Rookies Erica Farrer and Kelly Griffin led the Brown attack, recording two shots apiece, while Brown's defense held Clarkson to a season-low in scoring, with just one goal and two total points.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they take on #7 St. Lawrence at 3:00 p.m.
