Women's Golf Coaches
Danielle Griffiths has left her mark on the Brown women’s golf team since taking over as head golf coach in 2007, rebuilding the squad into a contender at the Ivy League and regional level. A former assistant women's golf coach at the University of Virginia, Danielle is now in her fifth full season as head coach of the Brown squad, and has upgraded the Bears schedule, its recruiting efforts and overall level of play.
In the fall of 2010, Griffiths guided the Bears to the Championship of the 26th Annual Northern Illinois Huskie Classic, carding a school record 296 on the final day of competition. Carly Arison '12 captured medalist honors at the Huskie Classic, shooting 75-75—150 to capture the individual title in the 74-player field.
In the fall of 2011, Griffiths directed the Bears to a first place team championship at the Lehigh Invitational, carding a 298 on the final day. Stephanie Hsieh ’15 tied for 1st in the tournament and Michelle Chen ’15 tied for 3rd place. Megan Tuohy ’12 was the first ever women’s golfer under Griffiths’ tenure to receive the prominent Ivy League award of first team Academic All-Ivy for Brown.
In the fall of 2003, Danielle was the first-ever Assistant Women's Golf Coach for the University of Virginia. During her tenure with the squad, Danielle helped Jan Mann launch the Virginia program that made its first-ever appearance in the 2005 national championship following the team's second season.
"The team and I cannot say enough good things about Danielle," said Mann when Danielle left the Virginia program. "She was a true asset to the women's golf program at Virginia and a key contributor to the success of our team for the last two years. We are all very happy for her as she makes her move to New England to be with her husband, but she will be truly missed by everyone on the team."
Griffiths has recently coached the last three summers at the UNC Chapel Hill Girls Golf Camp, Sam Carmichael's Junior Golf Camp at Indiana University, Peggy Kirk Bell's Junior Golf Camp and the Diane Dailey's Golf Camp at Wake Forest. In 2004, Griffiths coordinated the first ever Jan Mann Junior Girls Golf Camp at Virginia.
An accomplished teacher, Danielle is finishing her LPGA Teaching and Club Professional requirements and has taught at the Kittansett Club in Marion, MA and presently at the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, RI.
A 1997 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Danielle earned a bachelor's degree in business management. As a student-athlete, Danielle was a four-time letter winner, captain of the team and also received the Coach's Award in 1997.
A native of Anderson, Indiana, Danielle resides in Rumford, RI with her husband Jamie Griffiths.
