Hilton Head, SC – Following an especially cold and wet early spring, the Brown women's golf team opened the 2013 spring season at the rain-shortened Low Country Intercollegiate, shooting 349 to place 12th in the 16-team field.
The field faced extremely windy and difficult conditions at the Moss Creek South golf course Monday afternoon. The tournament was cut to only one round after inclement weather forced the first round to be canceled Sunday.
Western Carolina shot 328 at the par-72 layout to capture the team title by four shots over Princeton (328), followed by Dartmouth (335), Wofford (338), DePauw (339), Akron (340), Appalachian State (341), Western Kentucky (341), Gardner-Webb (342), Radford (343), Presbyterian (345), Brown (349), South Carolina State (352), USC Upstate (359), The Citadel (371) and Ursuline (402).
Freshman Maggie Min paced the Bears with a 13-over par 85, while sophomore Stephanie Hsieh came in at 86. Freshman Juliette Garay and senior Erica Farrer each shot 89, while freshman Lauren Flynn shot 91. Sophomore Cassandra Carothers played as an individual and shot 110.
The Bears are back in action again at the Georgetown Invitational, April 8-9, at the Four Streams GC in Beallsville, MD.
