Brown Women’s Golfers 2nd At Spider Invitational; Stephanie Hsieh ‘15 Wins Tournament Medal
Midlothian, Virginia - Led by tournament medalist Stephanie Hsieh '15, the Brown women's golf team turned in an outstanding performance at the Spider Invitational, hosted by the University of Richmond, finishing second with a 54-hole total of 917 in the event played at the par-72, 6,100 yard Independence Golf Club.
Hsieh shot a sparkling 54-hole one-under par 215 on rounds of 70-74-71. She was forced into a playoff for the top individual spot in the tournament and birdied the first playoff hole (#10) to beat Richmond's Tracy Martin (par) and earn medalist honors.
St. John's captured the team championship with a 54-hole total of 911, followed by Brown (917), Richmond (917), Boston College (919), Hofstra (920), Radford (932), Sacred Heart (933), Hampton (1001) and Towson (1016).
The Bears shots rounds of 306-301-310 for their three-round 917. Senior Heather Arison placed 12th individually with a 54-hole 231 on rounds of 75-73-83. Senior Megan Tuohy came through with rounds of 80-76-77—233 to place 18th individually.
Senior Carly Arison came in at 239 on rounds of 81-78-80, while freshman Michelle Chen shot 85-79-82—246. Freshman Cassandra Carothers played as an individual and placed 8th individualloy with a three-round 229, shooting 80-74-75.
Coach Danielle Griffiths' team is back in action again this weekend, October 15-16, at the Harvard Invitational, played at the Boston Golf Club in Hingham, Mass.
