Bears Drop Yale 4-1

PROVIDENCE, RI -- The Brown field hockey team ended its season in style today, as the Bears picked up their third Ivy win of the season in a 4-1 victory over Yale.

The game was locked in a scoreless stalemate for most of the first half, but Yale's Suzanne Anthony (Oklahoma City, OK) put the Bulldogs ahead with 12 minutes remaining as she drove in the first goal of the contest. Brown tied it up before halftime, however, when Cara Gardner (Hensall, ONT) fired a rocket into the upper left corner of the cage after receiving a slick pass from Kate McHugh (Woburn, MA).

In the second half, the Bears dominated the field with excellent play at every position. Only one minute after entering the game, Brown's Hyun-Joo Park (Wayne, NJ) netted the unassisted game-winner with 22:57 remaining in the contest. Less than four minutes later, freshman Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL) found the back of the net, taking a pass from Gardner and increasing the Bears' lead to two goals. With only 25 seconds left in the game, senior Stacey Lafond (North Andover, MA) knocked in the fourth goal for Brown, and was assisted by fellow senior Susana Garcia (Highland Lakes, NJ).

The Bears had a total of 24 shots inside the circle and took nine corners, while Yale had seven shots and three corners.

Brown keeper Annie Owens (Louisville, KY) made four saves in net for the win and Yale's Krissy Nesburg (Oak Park, IL) made 12 saves for the Bulldogs.

This was the final game of the season for the Bears, who ended up 10-6 overall and 3-4 in the Ivy League, giving them a fourth place finish. It was also the final game in a Brown uniform for seniors Susana Garcia, Kate McHugh, Stacey Lafond and Cara Gardner.
