Brown University senior Susana Garcia (Highland Lakes, NJ) has been named to the North Squad for the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I North/South Senior All-Star Game. Thirty-eight athletes have been chosen out of all Division I programs to participate in the game on Saturday, November 18 at Old Dominion University.
Garcia is a tri-captain for the Bears this year, who are currently 8-6 overall and 2-4 in the Ivy League, and has had a tremendous season in the midfield. After being selected as a First Team All-Ivy performer, a Second Team All-American (NE Region), an Academic All-Ivy and an Academic All-American last season, she is well on her way to earning even more accolades in 2000.
Switching from defense to the midfield this year has allowed Garcia to incorporate more offense into her game. She is second on the team in scoring with eight goals and eight assists, and ranks in the top ten in the Ivy League for total points (24). She has been a consistent spark for the Bears this season, notching at least one point in 11 of the 14 games, and is currently leading the Ivy League in consecutive games with a goal; she's on five and counting.
Garcia will be one of only six Ivy League players to compete in the All-Star game this season, and is the third player from Brown to be so honored in the past seven years.
