Pierpont Named Ivy League Field Hockey Player of the Week
Sept. 25, 2002
PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown junior Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL/Middlesex), who had 11 points in two games last week, has been named the Ivy League's Player of the Week, for the week ending September 22.
A forward for the Bears, Pierpont led Brown to a 2-0 week, while the team improved to 2-2 and 1-1 in the Ivy League. She had a career-high eight-point (three goals, two assists) performance in Brown's 6-1 win over Columbia, including scoring the game-winning goal and assisting on Brown's first goal of the game. With the eight points, she tied a Brown record for points in a game, which has not been accomplished since 1999 when Tara Mounsey '02.5 had three eight-point games during the season.
The leading scorer on the team with 13 points, Pierpont used the eight-point game to cap off an 11-point week as she assisted on Brown's tying goal and scored the game-winning goal earlier in the week in the Bears' 2-1 victory over Rhode Island. Currently, she ranks sixth in the county with 1.125 goals per game, and 17th in the country with .750 assists per game.
The Brown field hockey team, under head coach Carolan Norris, will take its 2-2 record on the road when the Bears face the University of Connecticut on Wednesday, September 25, at 4:00 p.m.
