PROVIDENCE, RI - Holy Cross (8-9) scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal late in the first period en route to a 1-0 victory over the Brown field hockey team (6-8) in a non-league contest on a windy Wednesday afternoon at Warner Roof.
The Bears dominated the early part of the game, earning six penalty corners in the first 10:00 of play. However, none of Brown's shots could find the back of the net as Holy Cross was able to hold the Bears off the board.
Brown's defense played strong, not allowing the Crusaders to take a shot on net for the first 20:00 of play. Holy Cross netted the lone goal of the game on a miscue between the Brown defenders for the 1-0 victory.
With 8:53 remaining before halftime, Holy Cross' Carolyn Connelly found sophomore Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) on the left post, before one-timing a lose ball into the open net for the 1-0 Holy Cross lead.
Brown's best scoring chance came with under four minutes left in the game, when the Bears broke in on a three-on-two rush. Sophomore Ani Kazarian (Providence, RI), pulled the Holy Cross goalie out of the cage, but the keeper got to the ball just in time to redirect it out of harm's way.
Hodavance recoded four saves in net for Brown, which continues action on Sunday, October 29, when it hosts Penn at 12:00 noon in its final home game of the season.
