Box Score

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown University Field Hockey Team (5-8, 2-3) earned a 2-1 victory over Ivy-foe Cornell (2-10, 1-5) on Saturday afternoon at Warner Roof. Senior Julia Kelderman (Chevy Chase, MD) scored her first career goal and sophomore Tracy Dungo (North Caldwell, NJ) added another goal in the win.

After an entire half of scoreless action, the Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the second half on Kelderman's first career goal. Sophomore Samantha Lloyd (Shavertown, PA) had the push-in on a Brown corner, and the ball went right to Kelderman's stick. She chose to keep the ball for herself and after two steps, drove the ball into the back of the net with 26:10 left to play.

However, 13:20 later, Cornell knotted the game at 1-1 with a goal of its own from a penalty corner. It was the third penalty corner in a row for the Big Red, as the Bears could not clear the circle during the span of back-to-back corners for Cornell.

Brown made sure that the Big Red didn't gain any momentum from tying the contest, and went ahead for good just 5:09 later. On another Brown corner, junior Kristen Vincent (Glens Falls, NY) took a hard shot from the top of the circle that Dungo deflected in for her third goal of the year.

The Bears held on for the win, despite a late push from Cornell that featured a penalty corner as time expired on the clock.

Freshman goalie Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) played another strong game for Brown, turning aside 10 Cornell shots, including seven in the first half. The Bears continue action on Wednesday when they travel to Worcester, MA for a 5:00 p.m. contest at Holy Cross. It is their final non-league game of the season for closing out 2004 at Pennsylvania and then at home against Yale.
