ITHACA, NY - Sophomore Molly Carleton (Shaker Heights, OH) tallied the game-winning goal with 13:07 remaining in the second overtime to lift Brown (7-5, 2-2) to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Cornell (7-6, 2-3) in an Ivy League field hockey game played in Ithaca, NY on Sunday afternoon.
Cornell took a 2-0 lead in the first half when they scored a goal just 1:37 into the contest on a penalty corner and then another with 8:28 remaining in the first half on a penalty stroke.
However, Brown's offense started to click before the half ended and freshman Kathryn Noe (Simsbury, CT) shut down the Big Red attack for the remainder of the game to help the Bears fight back from a 2-0 deficit and win their second straight.
Freshman Evan O'Connell (Greenwich, CT) started the Brown comeback when she tallied an unassisted goal, the first of her career, with 2:31 left in the first half. Brown would not let up and just 8:25 into the second half, sophomore leading scorer Lizzie Buza (Houston, TX) received a pass from classmate Meaghan Harwood (Hoosick Falls, NY) and tied the game with her seventh goal of the season.
The 2-2 score would stand until the end of regulation and through the first overtime. But less than two minutes into the second overtime, sophomore Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL) found Carleton, who knocked in the game-winner. The assist, was Pierpont's fifth point in two games.
Noe made nine saves in net for Brown and now stands at 7-3-0 and 2-2-0 in the Ivy League. The Bears continue action on Wednesday, October 24 when they host Providence in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
